American Museum of Natural History
Lizards and Snakes! Alive!
Opens Saturday, March 6
The exhibit features more than 60 live lizards and snakes from five continents. In addition to the live animals, the exhibit uses interactive stations, significant fossils, and an award-winning video to acquaint visitors with the world of the Squamata, the group that includes lizards and snakes.
Global Weekends From the Motherlands to El Barrio: New York’s Latino Immigrant Experience Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21, 1–5 pm Kaufmann and Linder Theaters, first floor Free with Museum admissionThe story of the ancient Silk Road is, in part, a story of immigration and of the cultural exchange that occurs at the borders of immigrant communities. Through performances, interactive workshops, conversations, and films, this family-friendly event focuses on Latino communities in New York City while drawing parallels between immigrant experiences throughout time.
Highlights include performances by the Coatlicue Theater Company, which will weave part of the Mayan creation story with stories of migration; Los Pleneros de la 21, a leader in the resurgence of Puerto Rican traditional music in New York; Samba Nation Productions, will bring rhythms of Brazilian Carnival; and Tahuantinsuyo, a pioneer folk music group from the Andes.

A Night at the Museum Sleepovers Friday, March 26, 5:45 pm – Saturday, March 27, 9 am The American Museum of Natural History $129 per person, $119 members * All participants must register in advance. One adult is required for every 1–3 children attending. Open to 7 -13 year olds.Lights Out! Test your valor when journeying through the darkened hallways of the Museum after hours. Meet live animals such as hawks and falcons; participate in arts and crafts projects like origami making; watch an IMAX movie; check out the Butterfly Conservatory; listen to bedtime stories; and explore the Museum with only a flashlight in hand. End the night sleeping under the whale in Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, beneath famous dioramas in the Hall of North American Mammals, or among the geological formations in the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth.
Wild, Wild World: Predators Saturday, March 27, 11am–noon and 1–2pm Linder Theater, first floor $10 adults, $8 children; Members’ tickets are $9 adults, 7$ childrenWelcome to the world of the predator! Get an up-close look at a Golden Eagle, python, and bear cub in this special live-animal presentation featuring wildlife expert Andrew Simmons.
Wild, Wild World is a children’s program that offers a unique learning experience, bringing live animals to the theater. Past shows have included birds, bats, and wolves.
Prospect Park Honors Volunteers with Recognition Brunch
Saturday, March 6 at 11:30 a.m.
at the Prospect Park Picnic House
They rake leaves, pick up trash, plant trees, assist visitors, and help maintain Brooklyn’s landmark Prospect Park. On Saturday, March 6 they will get the recognition they deserve at Prospect Park’s annual Volunteer Recognition Brunch.
The Administrator’s Award will be presented to those volunteers who have given over 500 hours of service to the Park (lifetime). Volunteers who have given over 250 hours of service in one year will receive the Mary Cregg Award. Other volunteers will be recognized with Certificates of Appreciation and Certificates of Recognition for their work at Prospect Park.
Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz and senior NYC Parks & Recreation Officials will be on hand to thank the volunteers.

Anyone can join the Prospect Park Volunteer Corps: individuals and families, students and retirees, friends and neighbors. Community and corporate groups are also encouraged to help the Park by joining the Volunteer Corps. Founded in 1997, NYICFF is the country’s largest festival of film for children and stands at the forefront of a movement to define a new, more compelling and provocative film for kids. In addition to the annual Feb/March festival, NYICFF presents year round programming, produces film production workshops for children, and distributes a “Best of NYICFF” tour. In recognition of its efforts, NYICFF has been twice honored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, while NY State Council for the Arts named NYICFF “a model for youth programming in New York State.”

A Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America, Inc. production presented by Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts as part of the Lunar New Year Festival.
Pipa player/singer/composer Min Xiao-Fen, is a virtuoso and pioneer in both orchestral and underground projects. The Blue Pipa Trio, comprised of Min Xiao-Fen (pipa, vocals); Mark Helias (bass), and Steve Salerno (guitar), transcends borders with cutting-edge music. A breathtaking virtuoso and courageous pioneer, Min blends ancient Chinese music and her own compositions with interpretations of jazz and bluegrass. Min Xiao-Fen’s work has been commissioned by The Kitchen in NYC and the Trio has performed at the JVC Jazz Festival, and recorded for Bjork’s new album.
