Kids Food Festival and The Upcoming NYC Vegetarian Food Festival 2012
This past weekend Bryant Park hosted its very first Kids Food Festival at Citi Pond. Despite the snow and cold weather families came out, and it’s no surprise as more and more of us have a growing concern about the nutritional items available for our families.
But the event’s purpose was even bigger than that; it aimed to helped fight against childhood obesity by providing fun and activities around great food choices and exposing children to the beauty of good food as presented by various celebrated chefs. Though the event was free, attendees could purchase tickets to attend selected events and demos, helping raise money to benefit Share Our Strength.
My kids and I were able to enjoy a cooking demo presented by Chef Ramin Ganeshram, author of Stir It Up!, and we delighted in the warm avocado soup served by one my absolute favorite chefs, Jehangir Mehta of Metaphor.
We walked through and tasted several food items presented by various food providers, and the kids enjoyed participating in a game of soccer as well.
The weather really didn’t damper the excitement that an event like this brought to the city. My hope is they continue to do it, bigger and even better next year – though this year was pretty cool.
We got a lot of information and announcements. One of which announced the upcoming NY Vegetarian Food Festival, which really couldn’t come at a better time for us! We’ve marked our calendar and are so looking forward to this one!
If you missed this year’s Kid Food Festival, take note for next year and I encourage you to join Citi Pond’s website for notices of upcoming events. Granted, Citi Pond itself is seasonal, but there are always fabulous things happening at Bryant Park year round.
In the meantime, don’t forget to check out the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival taking place at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th St) on March 3rd and 4th, 2012. Even if your little ones (or adult ones) in your family tend to run and hide from “green”, I promise that there is a lot more than just salad in the mix.
See you there!

It was a lot of fun Bicultural Mama! I am looking forward to the Vegetarian festival : )
Looks like it was such a fun event & it’s so nice to see such an initiative with fighting childhood obesity lately. Now, if I could only get those petrified what they call “chicken” nuggets off my kids school lunch menu- we pack every day the food is so awful.

OMG Kristie!! Those “chicken” nuggets should be illegal on any menu! Disgusting!!
