I am so excited to share this news with you!
I was asked to check out a new charitable website that is revolutionizing the way in which we make charitable donations to our favorite organizations and programs.
The site, YouGiveGoods.com aims to eliminate the steps and carbon footprints involved in getting your donation to those we aim to help, by putting together a team that will collectively gather and deliver your donations for you. It’s really, really easy to start a fundraising campaign for your favorite charity.
I just started one for the GMHC’s Keith Haring Food Pantry, an organization near and dear to my heart for their work to help provides food to low-income, HIV-positive clients. It is a client choice food pantry, meaning, instead of getting pre-packed food bags, clients are able to choose the foods they would like in specific categories such as lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, grains and cereals. The pantry strives to procure the healthiest food items available for clients and regularly offer an array of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins (beans, canned fish and tofu) and low sodium canned items. A Registered Dietitian is present in the food pantry at all times to help the clients decide what foods to choose from based on individual health concerns.
This process empowers clients to make healthier food choices when they are shopping in their neighborhood grocery stores. Many clients are exposed to healthier foods through the food pantry as well – for example, some had never tried whole-grain pasta or brown rice before getting it in the pantry, and now many say they prefer whole grain over white rice or pasta. The pantry hopes to introduce clients to foods they may have never tried before by offering more obscure items in the pantry such as veggie burgers, kasha, and hummus.
The Keith Haring Food Pantry would love to be able to extend the pantry service to more clients who are in need. Due to the current state of the economy and federal cuts, (not to mention the rising cost of food,) they have seen an increase in the demand for pantry services. Unfortunately, due to the same aforementioned economic circumstances, they are unable to meet this demand. They currently have a wait-list for the food pantry, which they estimate is about a 4-5 months long. During a time when funding for nutrition services for our population is decreasing, and the need for services is increasing, they need all of the support they can get!
I am running the fundraiser for an entire month, from now till the week before Christmas. I ask that you please check out my effort to help the Keith Haring Food Pantry HERE
What I most love about how YouGiveGooods.com works is that you choose how much you want to give through the selection of the products – in my fundraising case – the food products of your choice. If you click on a box $50 towards a few boxes of cereal, the pantry will receive exactly the $50 worth of boxes of cereal – not an approximate estimate, not a portion of the proceeds, nothing like that at all. What you choose to give is EXACTLY AND IDENTICAL what your charity of choice will receive. No amount is distributed for administrative or other costs. And once the products you’ve selected are delivered, you will receive a receipt for your contribution of tax purposes.
You can trust that your donation and what you chose to donated will be used exclusively, and exactly how you meant for it to be. No gimmicks. No surprises. No hassle.
I love it.
I hope you will join me in donating the $1,500.00 in pantry supplies to the Keith Haring Food Pantry. Please, spread the word. No donation is too small!
I appreciate your contribution and support!
Disclosure: I was recruited by Buzzing Bloggers to help spread the word on YouGiveGoods.com. The Keith Haring Food Pantry is a charity of my choice, as is the amount listed to raise for the pantry. For my work as an ambassador for this campaign, Buzzing Bloggers has compensated me, a portion of which I have used to personally contribute to the fund I have created. I receive no further compensation based on results of fundraising efforts. All opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
