Airbnb offers travelers homier lodging options during the holidays
It’s the most wonderful time of the year – except, of course, for those travelers spending the holidays cramped on their relative’s pullout couch or in a cheerless hotel room.
This December, you can get homier for the holidays with Airbnb, the trusted community marketplace where people can list, discover, and book unique spaces from people all over the world.
Coincidentally, on my recent trip to the Dominican Republic, I met a couple from Poland also vacationing in Las Terrenas, Samana and they had booked their beach apartment for less than $100 a day through Airbnb. Now, I can guarantee that you will always get that rate, but in speaking to this couple it seems they lodge through Airbnb’s services often and absolutely love it and have found it to be a great option.
Now, this holiday season, in addition to being able to deck the halls – whether it’s with wreaths, menorahs, or kinaras – travelers can enjoy several benefits when using Airbnb this holiday season:
- Hang stockings with care and choose a property with a gorgeous fireplace
- Bake cookies for Santa or cook potato pancakes, latkes, and other holiday favorites with an extra-large kitchen
- Check out the Snowed Inn collection, which boasts winter cabins, chalets, and even igloos
- Live like a local and participate in the area’s winter festivities: build a snowman in their own backyard, discover local sleigh riding trails, find a new mountain to hit the slopes, and discover the best place in town to sip a cup of homemade hot chocolate.
New Yorkers can start perusing their New York collection (a recommended list of cool NY properties) to get an idea of what’s available nearby: http://www.airbnb.com/collections/unique-new-york-city-getaways
Airbnb even offers escapes for those Scrooges who don’t want any reminder of the holidays—these folks will want to browse the Life’s a Beach and I’m on a Boat collections.

What a great option for holiday travelers. We’ll have to keep this in mind the next time we travel.

Definitely do! I’ve heard nothing but great things about them.
In New York City it is illegal to rent out your apartment for under 30 days. See S6873 Even though airbnb is ignoring this at the moment, word is that the owners of these rentals could get shut down. The city is enforcing the new law.
Thanks Lola. Please note the following statement made available to all from airbnb:
Airbnb is an open marketplace serving the needs of property hosts and guests in 19,000 cities and 192 countries worldwide; the terms of service require all users in the marketplace to comply with applicable local and state laws and regulations.
Airbnb is actually NOT ignoring local laws, as a matter of fact it encourages owners to notify landlords as well as be well informed of what the local laws and regulations apply to them before listing on the site so as to avoid any complications in the future.
Thank you for your feedback.
