When Love isn’t Enough, We Give Art: A Fund For Jennie
The weeks are quickly passing by. We are slowly still adjusting to our new home, getting the kids ready for school, making new friends, looking forward to the colder months.
But as I help my family move on with our lives, one family I am always thinking of is that of my friend Jennifer Perillo (of In Jennie’s Kitchen). As you may recall, Jennie recently lost her husband suddenly, leaving her with two small daughters to care for.
I know Jennie enough to not paint her as some poor soul in a sorrowful case of pity. Well, one, she would kick my ass, and two, there is nothing sad or pitiful about her. She’s incredibly strong, though her heart may be broken. But the reality is that a main provider in their lives is no longer there and we can’t imagine not doing whatever possible to help them make it through this difficult time.
That is why I am so grateful for the efforts put together by the lovely ladies behind Bloggers Without Borders.
#AFundForJennie, created by Shauna Ahern and Maggy Kee is one of the very first projects their new organization is taking on. And what a great one. Jennie is loved and respected by so many in the food community, blogging and otherwise, but loved by many of other bloggers, such as myself, also because of the beautiful soul this amazing woman is.
Raising money for Jennie is a way to help her manage the responsibilities she suddenly faces alone in raising her two young girls. Her husband was always supportive and encouraging of her career as a food writer, and as such she has contributed inmensly in inspiring, encouraging, and motivating others to create something wonderful in their kitchens to share with their loved ones. Financial burdens are already piling up. Health insurance runs out at the end of this year, and Jennie just found out she cannot collect widows benefits from social security.
For some it is easier to understand what this means if they can somehow imagine themselves in this position. As a mother of three it is hard for me to and I would imagine it would be hard for a lot of us. Thus, I ask for your generous support in helping this beautiful family.
My husband/business partner and I will be auctioning off his creative services, the same that have given NYCityMama.com its look and feel, for this cause.
