Sing for Hope brings back the Pop-Up Pianos in NYC
Yay! Sing for Hope has brought back the Pop-Up Pianos to New York City!
We love them. We never know where they will, um, pop-up, but when we see them we can’t help but be attracted to play them.
This latest encounter was at Inwood Hill Park, after a wonderful nature walk and morning of fun. The kids were immediately excited and started playing their makeshift tunes, but it was my 13-year-old boy who left everyone who listened impressed.
He quietly approached the piano, sat down, and sweetly played. Here’s the video, and many thanks to Sing for Hope for giving our city and our community the access to make music.
Check out Sing for Hope’s website for more information and their Pop-Up Piano site for info on upcoming free concerts on any one of the 88 pianos found throughout the city. These pianos have been designed by Volunteer Artists who generously contributed their craft. The Pop-Up Pianos will be on display throughout the city till July 2nd, after which the organization will donate the pianos to the local schools, hospitals, and community organizations that they serve year-round.
The 2011 Sing for Hope Pop-Up Pianos, inspired by British artist Luke Jerram, is the world’s largest street piano installation to date, and is expected to reach over two million people. You can donate to help support Sing for Hope’s amazing work here.
