World’s Largest Dinosaurs visit the American Museum of Natural History
One can always expect to see big things happening at the American Museum of Natural History, with the larger than life exhibits and wonderful educational and interactive programs. But from April 16 to January 2, 2012, the museum will host something even bigger, all around theories of what the life of some of The World’s Largest Dinosaurs, the sauropods, could have possibly been like. Everything from what they possibly ate, to where they lived, and even their biological composition is covered in this grand exhibit which manages to capture the interest of all, from the young to the much older.
The little ones and I had a chance to get a preview of the exhibit before it opened up to the general public. They were pretty impressed the moment we entered.
“Is there a T-Rex here?” my 5 year old asked nervously.
“No, there are no carnivores. Just sauropods,” smiled our host at the museum.
It took a little bit to warm them up to the exhibit as for little kids it may seem a bit intimidating at first. However, the various interactive displays helped to really bring them in. The state of the art elements throughout this exhibit encouraged questions and discussions with my kids.
There are many different areas for discovery, even a pit more reminiscent of older exhibits where the science of excavation and archeology is addressed in a way that is already familiar to us.
But the overall exhibit takes the discussion of these amazing creatures to a new level. One based mainly on hypothetical summations, but intriguing and incredibly interesting nonetheless.
We were there a lot longer than I anticipated we would be, the boys enjoyed it so. We followed up our visit by stopping into the adjacent dinosaur hall, a regular favorite of ours, and one that suddenly seemed that much more fun to revisit after the display and enticement of the imagination made possible by the new exhibit.
An exhibit ticket would need to be purchased in addition to your museum admission to view The World’s Largest Dinosaur.
For bloggers, tweeps and their families: the American Museum of Natural History is hosting The World’s Largest Dinosaur Social on April 30th, 2010. If you are interested in applying please visit the application page here.
