Children’s menus? Hate them – Placating Picky Eaters.
Anyone that has seen me eat knows I am not a picky eater. Actually, no one in my family is. Granted there are moments when I serve my kids a food item and they look at me like I must be joking. But my approach, “Eat it or go hungry” almost always works, for going hungry is not a practice we follow. Ever.
My challenge however is keeping that dreaded Children’s Menu away from my kids everywhere we go. I sometimes go for it, yes. But I hate it. I want to teach my kids to eat more than pizzas, chicken fingers, and PB&Js when we eat out. We don’t eat like that at home, so why do it when eating out? If I am at a wonderful Hibachi restaurant, I want them to eat the magical dishes from our lively chef, not the crappy hot dog from the color-in menu. It’s a challenge that a lot of parents, and parents with picky eaters deal with.
Recently I shared how I deal with the challenges of feeding my children healthy foods and participated in this discussion with others who share in my agony. I Co-Hosted in Expanding Your Family’s Palate by Placating Picky Eaters in one of The Motherhood’s first-ever virtual cooking school, Cooking Connections.
By following this link, you can read the earlier discussion me and other moms had on the different ways we deal with food issues, both in our home and with our kids. I hope you’ll check it out!
