The Awe of MOMENTUM at New Victory Theater
A couple of weeks ago the boys (4, 5, and 13) and I headed over to The New Victory Theater to catch their latest dance production, Momentum.
I have watch several shows at the New Victory, and each time I feel that they have surpassed the one before. But Momentum was the first show that entertained all of my kids equally, and left the adults literally gasping in awe and impressed.
A mix between Groovaloo and Stomp (according to my 13 year old) Momentum is an intense, high energy, and fun performance. My friend Raven Snook, from Time Out Kids compares it to a rave, without “drugs or alcohol, of course, but with plenty of seats where you can rest your weary parental bones” and I couldn’t agree more.
The combination of technology and funky beats, along with powerful dancing, and even more powerful singing, made this an incredible treat, and in my eyes really took the New Victory, which we already love, to a new level of entertainment and performance.
Momentum is brought to us by the Israeli performance troupe Mayumana and is made up of international, multi-cultural group of artists, 100 exact, many who have been touring together since the troupe first formed in 1996.
The show is 90 minutes long, no intermission, and though the concept is time, and how we perceive it, we seem to have lost track of it and enjoyed every single second. The cast is captivating and I couldn’t get enough.
I recommend this show as a must see event this holiday season. Bring the kids, they will love it, but best of all, so will you!
