World-Renowned Monaco Boys’ Choir To Host Free Concerts
The world renowned boys’ choir of the Principality, known as The Little Singers of Monaco, will visit NYC and host two free concerts on July 7 and 8, 2010. The free performances will be held:
Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 6:00PM Church of the Holy Family 315 East 47th Street Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 6:00PM St Bartholomew’s Church 325 Park AvenueThe musical repertoire, directed by Pierre Debat, will include sacred musical works by Charpentier, Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Fauré and Franck; French and Monégasque folk songs; English-language songs such as “My Love is a Red, Red Rose” and “Joshua” and patriotic American songs “God Bless America”, “America The Beautiful” and “The Star Spangled Banner”.
The award-winning boys’ choir, founded in 1973 under the patronage of Prince Rainier III, brings together more than 30 voices. Created to showcase the Principality’s historic association with culture and the performing arts, the choir is a part of the Monaco Cathedral Choir and is composed of talented children from ages eight to 18, who have passed rigorous examinations to be admitted into the prestigious group. After substantial training, the group traditionally embarks on a spring tour of Europe and a summer tour to more far-flung destinations. The Little Singers, especially popular for their unusual repertoire of works written for children, have visited more than 35 nations around the world and perform an average of 30 to 40 concerts a year.
The Monaco Boys’ Choir is under the patronage of H.S.H. the Prince of Monaco. With the generous support of the Monégasque government, the choir is able to donate its talents to concerts organized on behalf of humanitarian associations throughout the world.
The New York concerts are part of the choir’s East Coast summer tour which also includes free concerts in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Charlotte and in Florida in Orlando, Stuart, Palm Beach, Coral Gables and Miami from July 10 – 25, 2010.
