Take A Field Trip Adventure to The Bronx Zoo with NYCity Mama and Family

NYCity Mama is joining in a national campaign to help in the enrichment of children’s education through the experiences gained from school field trips.

This is response to the The American Association of School Administrators prediction that over 30,000 schools will be affected by a 56% increase in the elimination of field trips.  For a kid in New York City, already experiencing limited outdoor resources, this can be a huge blow to their educational experience.

Thus, along with some great bloggers and others, NYCity Mama is joining forces with Lunchables to help promote “Field Trips for All”, a new campaign to help deserving kids go on educational and inspiring field trip adventures.

Field Trips for All plans to provide the funds to enable 50 classrooms nationwide to go on unforgettable field trips. Anyone can nominate a classroom to win a field trip on Lunchables.com through June 1!

To help spread the word about the program, and with the generosity of Lunchables, I am offering one family an all expense paid Adventure with NYCity Mama and crew in The Bronx Zoo on Saturday, May 29th.

The Bronx Zoo is a favorite retreat for my family and I, we have written about our visits many times before. We are thrilled to share the experience alongside your family!

TO ENTER:

  • Leave a comment expressing your interest
  • Spread the word!  Tweet, Facebook, blog, tell others about the Field Trips for All program and ask them to nominate a class!
  • Tweet about the giveaway and remember to @NYCityMama!

Winning family will be chosen on Friday, May 21, 2010

Let’s help keep field trips in schools!

    Hi Mary!

The contest is for a trip for you family and mine together, not a class field trip (although you can certainly nominate your daughter’s class through the Lunchables link!). Thanks for entering…and good luck!

    NY City Mama,
I did not check the refrigerator calendar for dates, but figure I will add my two cents and work the schedule out later if I win. I have spent 6 years working with and volunteering as a board member with the Lehigh Valley Zoo in Lehigh County, PA and the past two years providing business development services to Dutch Springs/NorthStar Adventure in Bethlehem, PA. Both these facilities and many other museums and attractions are threatened by the shrinking classroom. If you ask anybody if they have had a key experience or memory from a fieldtrip, they will most likely reply yes. Everyone agrees that all learning does not occur in the classroom but few have stepped in to increase this valuable learning experience. Many have watched as test scores, attendance mandates and the high cost of bussing, have threatened some of the best memories and learning opportunities, field trips. I applaud you and Lunchables, for getting behind the cause.

    Hi Gregg,

Thank you for your reply. As the child of an immigrant family, I remember that the only access I often had to the cultural and educational venues of NYC where through field trips offered through my school. It opened my eyes and mind to all there is to see and learn. As an interpreter at a school in WI, I collected funds to take minority students on field trips to college campuses to open their eyes and minds of what there future could be should the apply themselves. I know first had the value of field trips on the overall educational experience of a child, and though personally, I can only take one family with me on this particular venture, my hope is that their experience will serve as an example of the good things that come from an outing such as this.

    Thanks again! — Carol
