Honoring A Local Toy Maker: Small Town Toys

As most of us know, the International Toy Fair 2010 ended yesterday.  I went a few times, even had the awesome opportunity to speak on a panel with a few other fabulous Digital Moms.

I saw some really great toys, great educational items for kids, books, and most importantly a wonderful array of travel-friendly toys and games which I will list out for you later this week.

And I love and have a great relationship with some of the giant toymakers. I buy their toys, I tell my friends about them, I am a consumer.

But I also really, really love the small business, family owned, and environmentaly-friendly toy makers.

I found a hand full of eco-friendly toys at the newly established Eco-Friendly Product Zone this year and highlighted a short list over at NYMetropolista.

But as I walked through the wonderful selection of toys, I couldn’t help but think of a darling friend of mine, a mom, who left her life as a PR professional to be a full time to her son.  I wanted to re-introduce her here. Her company, Small Town Toys, produces hand-made (by her), with non-toxic paints or chemicals.

I invite to read more about her here, and would love to hear about a local, Mom and Pop owned,eco-friendly toy-maker in your community. Let’s spread the word about these amazing, passionate artists and their dedication to bringing, safe, environmentally-friendly toys into our homes. I would love to see more people like her at these Toy Fairs in the future.
