Saks Fifth Avenue Partners with Microsoft for Holiday “Windows”
Among the many amazing things that happen in New York City during the Holidays, attracting tourists from all over the world, the biggest attraction of all are the various holiday window displays exhibited throughout. And few windows draw the crowds like Saks Fifth Avenue. Every year tourists and residents alike line up for hours to catch a glimpse and admire the beautiful displays of favorite Holidays tales intertwined with latest trends whether it be in pop culture or fashion.
Saks unveiled the Holiday windows yesterday, November 23. This year the Saks windows get techy with the assistance from Microsoft and Windows 7. The theme for this year’s window will feature scenes from Saks’ holiday children’s book, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Flake”, the story of a snowflake named Twinkle.

Microsoft provided more than 20 video monitors, all powered by Windows 7 to help animate some of the book’s key scenes. Other features include ice-skating penguins and a voiceover of the book that is audible to passersby. The coolest feature of all (and this is coming from someone who loves Twitter) is the one that allows holiday shoppers to tweet their holiday wishes using #holidaywindows. These wishes will then appear in the display!

Saks and Microsoft take the experience beyond the window and into interactive in-store lounges for shoppers created for the occasion . The specially constructed lounges feature Windows 7-based PCs, with Microsoft experts on hand to answer questions about the software and hardware.

If you can’t be in New York City this year, you’ll still be able to participate by downloading a special Windows 7 holiday theme pack featuring Twinkle and some of the key scenes from the book at the Windows Personalization Gallery.
But if you are fortunate enough to be in New York City, grab a warm cocoa, put on your cute Winter accessories, and stand on line to see one of New York City’s best Holiday displays, and don’t forget to do some shopping too!
