FDNY Fire Zone: Fire trucks, Fire Safety, and Fun
One day as we were walking around the beautiful Rockefeller Center we came across a place that no little boy, or girl, who loves fire trucks could ever resist: The FDNY Fire Zone. Located on 51 St, right next to Radio City Music Hall, the FDNY Fire Zone is not only a fun place for the kids to play in a real life size fire truck, but also for families to learn about fire safety.

With all the lights, candles, and other holiday displays that go up, at this time of the year especially, taking a trip over to the FDNY store and teaching you kids about fire safety, as well as getting some extra safety tips yourself, is not a bad idea.

Fire simulation presentations are offered, free of charge, every hour on the half hour starting at 9:30am with the last presentation given at 5:30.
Though my little ones were too young to participate in the fire simulation presentations (best for kids five and over), they nevertheless enjoyed playing in the fire truck, shaking hands and talking to the real firemen present to answer any questions we had, and walking and browsing through the small store on location.

It’s a quick stop that could be a nice, fun experience for the kids, while also teaching the family ways to stay safe and use caution when dealing with fire and other potential hazards.

How cool! My sister and her husband own The Original Firestore on Greenwich Avenue in the West Village. Should check it out if you’re down there!
