Matty’s Toy Stop, Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City, NY
I am not a Mall type of girl. Not normally. But as the holidays start getting closer, I find myself drawn to them like a suburban teenager after school. I can’t help it. It’s the lights, and the decor, the easy listening Christmas music. I want to just walk around and take it all in.
My family and I recently ventured out to Long Island and discovered the Roosevelt Field Mall. It’s bright, big, and has tons of shopping options, huge parking space, and is only a short 30 minute ride from Manhattan.
As we walked around we (my children) came across a colorful toy store. My kids immediately ran in and were in awe. Now, I love my Toys r Us in Times Square and all, but there is something about a smaller, more intimate toy store that really affects the shopping experience for me.

The store, Matty’s Toy Stop (website coming soon), had a real Mom and Pop feel to it. Granted it has several locations, this one we stumbled upon being their newest one, but the attention to customer needs and service is not something you easily find, if at all, in larger stores.

The manager and owner behind the counter had no idea that I was a reviewer, and I wasn’t there as one, I was there as just mom. And my boys, who had already been browsing the store for a good 40 minutes, were delighted to be there with no intention to leave. Instead of being annoyed or wandering around wondering what we were doing, they let us walk around, let my kids touch the toys and check them out, and they even offered them a few free gifts as we checked out.

All of this was absolutely lovey for sure, but what really impressed me about the store, enough to share the experience with you here, were the smiles and the way in which my children were treated. I loved their selection of toys, I enjoyed the size of the place, it really made the shopping experience feel intimate and non rushed. I felt like I was really getting something special, not only in my personal experience there, but in my purchases.
They also have a great selection of games and high end toys, like my favorite Ugly Dolls, and some regular favorites like the characters from Toy Story and Diego.

So this Holiday season, take a drive out to Roosevelt Field Mall and visit Matty’s Toy Shop. It is hassle free shopping, friendly service, and customer attention at its best. I hope it is as positive a shopping experience for you as it was for our family!

Looks like a really fun place. I am glad Baby Boy does not get the gift concept yet. He likes wrapping paper. Ha.
[...] If this is something you are considering or are curious about, I would encourage you to head out to Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden State and check it out. It’s truly amazing the detail and thought that they have put into these [...]
I just had the great privilige of going to Mattys toy shop for the first tiime today. The owner/manager was such a nice person and I also felt that old fashioned mom and pop atmoshpere that is so often missing at huge department stores. I look forward to going there many more times or (Matty) more times……ok, so I dont make a living on my jokes..really its an adorable place…
I want to add that I stopped in one day, desperate for a gift bag for a birthday party we were heading off to, and found a perfect sized children’s birthday gift bag for a very reasonable price. I expected it to be marked up big time because of the boutique feel of the place but the owner chose NOT to take advantage of his location, instead provided a perfect bag at a low cost!
Thanks for your feedback Rebecca! I agree!
