From Jersey to Brooklyn with Tribeca Street Fair in Between
NYCity Mama had so many plans for today. At times when she envisions her adventures for a day, she envisions them BIG. She knew that they were going to venture into New Jersey at the beginning of their day since this is where her favorite kid’s hair cut place is located. She likes coming here because it’s reasonably priced (remember she has 3 boys), it is a fun and clean locale, and she has never once had to make an appointment and they see her right away. Kids always walk out looking amazing without having stressed out about getting their hair cut (the little cars they sit in, videos of cartoons, and video games help).
She had hoped to have brunch in one of her favorite little New Jersey towns (which she will share in another adventure) and go from there, but her husband didn’t want to venture too far. So they settled for breakfast at Panera, which was nearby and finished up some errands before heading back to NYC.
They drove downtown to participate in the festivities taking place at the Tribeca Film Festival Street Fair. The drive downtown was gorgeous. It seemed everyone was out and seeing it all made Mama very happy and she knew it was going to be a great day.

By the time they arrived to the cobble stone streets of Tribeca it was past mid-afternoon, the sun was shining, the weather was warm, and the streets not too crowded.

The boys were immediately drawn to the bubble section set up by The Gazillion Bubble Show and spent most of their time there laughing and oooo’ing each time their dad or someone else managed to create a huge bubble before them.

They could smell the food vendors along the way, and though some of the available items were from some of Mama’s favorite places, like Mud Coffee, Bubby’s and Billy’s Bakery, both Mama and hubby agreed that when it came to street fair food, this one fell short. There was one place that had the famous street fair corn, most other places ran out. The hot dogs and gyros were from every day street carts, not fair vendors, and there wasn’t even a stand for funnel cakes. A street fair with no funnel cakes?!?

The entertainment on the other hand, was AMAZING. First they walked by a band performing lively Russian songs, then they listened to the percussionists from the Brooklyn Express Drumline, and then danced to the tunes of Noggin favorites Hot Peas and Butter, The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, among many others.

The kids danced and ate and were in awe of everything they saw. They took part in a lot of the activities made available to them before it was time to leave.

Not ready to go home, they made their way through Chinatown, over the Brooklyn Bridge, and towards Dumbo, for no reason other than the day being absolutely gorgeous, the boys being in a great mood, and Mama and hubby wanting to take it as much of their city as they could in one day (or before the kids crashed).

They went to their favorite playground in the area and while the boys played and hubby watched, Mama decided to take a stroll. She came upon a waterfront wedding. It was beautiful. The bride and groom were thrilled that as they exchanged vows completed strangers had gathered around to witness it. The happiness on their faces was proof of that.

Mama couldn’t think of a better way to end a beautiful NYC Adventure.
