Bring Your Child to Work Day/Five Guys Burger

NYCity Mama was exhausted.  The late night before, combined with her early morning routine took a toll on her. But the day was gorgeous and she wanted to take advantage of it at some point.  She had some work to do, and preparations for a weekend trip, and when she looked at the clock the day was almost over.

Luckily, today was Bring Your Child To Work Day at her hubby’s place…which also happens to be the doorway to heaven: Kiehl’s.

Mama was running late.  Truth is, as much as she hates to admit it, as the boys get older, being anywhere on-time requires more and more calculation and planning, patience, and effort…and an endless supply of energy.  She often wonders how incredible it is that she has developed the skills of a Drill Sargeant, firing out orders and commands, making sure everyone is organized and on time.  It’s exhausting.

But the boys were exited to go see Daddy, and so after Mama wiped some purple marker off her 2.5 year olds hands, face, eyelids, mouth, fingers, and hands (long story), they headed out to Daddy’s place of work.

They were late, and had missed most of the activities.  They also missed a few kids. The group that works with her husband are all young and hip and cool and talented…not many have little children, so there weren’t too many kids there, but what was best, all loved the presence of little ones in the midst.

As their 11 year old sat at his father’s desk, checking it all out, taking it all in, being in complete silent awe of his father (as he usually is more and more these days), the little ones ran around, flirted with the ladies, got into everything, and acted like they owned the place.

img_4482They made a nice little mess with all the little things used by the Creative Team more as props than play things. Her 3.5 year old made friends with Jack, another little boy who came in with his mom Danielle for a visit, and they bonded over cupcake.  They were especially fond of Creative Director, Victoria’s office, and her 2.5 year old seemed to like the sitting in the seat of CopyEditor, Steve ‘s desk the most (maybe a glimpse into the future?). Members of the team even took some time to pose for this group shot below (2.5 is missing because he was too busy wondering around elsewhere!).

The boys had a wonderful time visiting Daddy at his workplace, and everyone was wonderful to have them.  The boys enjoyed seeing where Daddy spends most of his time, and better yet, getting to explore a new place!

img_4500After leaving their Daddy’s office, they decided to walk over to the local park.

The location of the James J. Walker playground, is also home to the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center.  The area, which was recently renovated, is a great little playground for kids her age.  Its small space is surrounded by areas for other activities, such as hand ball, baseball, and in warmer weather, outdoor pool swimming.

The boys met up with their new best friend Jack, and had a wonderful time playing around in the park.  It was a beautiful afternoon, and they just wanted to be out after so many days of rain and being sick.

img_4521After awhile of playing, and saying good bye to Jack (whom they hope to see again soon) everyone started to get really hungry.  They decided to walk around a bit and decide on one of the many places to eat.   Mama loves the West Village area (who doesn’t?), loves the cobble streets and brownstones, one of which served as the face of the Cospy home in The Cosby Show.

They decided to stop by one of their favorite local burger spots, Five Guys Burger.

Mama didn’t eat the fries, the burger was enough.  She loves that you can get salted or unsalted peanuts while you wait for your order, and her son thinks that though both Petey’s Burger and Five Guys are incredibly delicious, he believes the fries at Five Guys are way better.  Check ‘em out and let us know what you think!

img_4541After a short stroll around the neighborhood, they decided to start making their way back home.  The 11 year old had his Dad on a higher pedestal of coolness, the little ones were worn out from time spent at the playground, and Mama and husband were just happy to have spent such a ice afternoon together on a weekday.

Thank you to the members of the Creative Team of L’Oreal’s Luxury Products Division, Kiehl’s, for their hospitality, patience, and friendship.  We had a great visit!
